Questions about taxis in Vicenza
Prices, payments, luggage and calling a taxi: answers to the most common questions.
Prices and payments
How much does a taxi cost in Vicenza?
In town you pay by taximeter: €2.50 when you get in, then €0.95 per km and €30 per hour when the car is stopped or in a queue. The minimum fare is €8.50. Surcharges are added at night, on public holidays and if you call a radio taxi.
How much is a taxi at night and on public holidays?
€2.50 is added once: at night from 10pm to 6am, or in the daytime on Sundays and public holidays. The two surcharges are not combined. The minimum fare becomes €11 (€8.50 plus the surcharge).
How much do you pay outside the City of Vicenza?
The taximeter only counts kilometres, at €0.95 per km. According to the City's 2014 resolution you also pay for the taxi's empty return trip, at the same rate. Outside the municipality the driver has to agree to the ride: ask the cooperative for a quote before you leave.
Can I pay by card?
Yes: the City's regulation requires drivers to be equipped for credit and debit cards. If you call the radio taxi, tell the switchboard; with the appTaxi app you can also pay with Satispay.
Must the driver give me a receipt?
Yes, if you ask: by regulation it must show the licence number, date, amount and route. You also need it to make a complaint.
Calling a taxi
How do I call a taxi in Vicenza?
Call +39 0444 920600 (TaxiVicenza), open 24/7, send an SMS with town, street and number to +39 338 844 2000, or use the appTaxi app. When you call, the €1.50 radio taxi surcharge is added.
How much does the taximeter show when the taxi I called arrives?
Under the City's regulation the service starts when the taxi accepts the call, so the taximeter may already show an amount when it arrives.
At the rank, must I take the first taxi in line?
No: the City's regulation lets passengers choose any taxi in the line.
Can I hail a taxi in the street?
Yes, if it is free: the City's regulation allows it. However, the driver cannot pick you up near a taxi rank where other taxis or customers are waiting.
Can the driver refuse a ride?
Within the City of Vicenza the driver must accept every request, unless the car is full or already taken, and in a few other cases set by the regulation. For a destination outside the municipality the driver has to agree.
Can I ask for a larger car?
Yes: TaxiVicenza has 5- and 6-seater people carriers and estate cars. Ask when you call.
Luggage, animals and accessibility
Can a taxi carry a wheelchair?
Yes, and by regulation wheelchairs are carried free of charge. If you need an adapted car, ask the cooperative when you call.
Can I bring my dog?
It depends on the taxi: the City's regulation lets drivers refuse animals, except guide dogs, which travel free. With the appTaxi app you can ask for a taxi that takes small animals.
How much is luggage?
€1 for each piece of luggage, as set by the City's fares.
Do children need a car seat?
Under the Italian Highway Code, in a taxi children shorter than 1.50 m may travel without a car seat only in the back, with a person aged at least 16. If you want a car seat, ask the cooperative when you call.
Complaints and lost property
I left something in a taxi: what should I do?
Call +39 0444 920600 straight away with as many details as possible: the item, the time, start and destination. By regulation, drivers hand items they cannot return straight away to the City within 3 days: the lost property office is at Palazzo Trissino (+39 0444 221030).
Who do I contact to make a complaint?
The City of Vicenza: the Mobility, Transport and Infrastructure Department, which issues taxi licences (+39 0444 221465, mobilita@comune.vicenza.it), or the Local Police (+39 0444 545311, polizialocale@comune.vicenza.it). Keep the receipt and the taxi's licence number.
How do I recognise a licensed taxi?
It is white, has a TAXI sign on the roof and a taximeter. The front doors show the licence number, the City's coat of arms and the words «servizio pubblico»; the fare card, in English too, is displayed behind the front seat and on the dashboard.
Can't find the answer?
